Web Development

Marine Life Bootstrap Triptych

Building an educational website by implementing Bootstrap in three steps.

When considering ideas for this project, I wanted to create a kind of website that would challenge me to learn a new tools while also creating something I’m passionate about. Subsequently, I landed on the idea of making a simple, informational website about wildlife that could be accessible for all ages.

The first iteration of this website was done using some Bootstrap elements, but was otherwise made from scratch.

Initially, this website was built using primarily custom HTML and CSS, with some Bootstrap elements. This would provide the basis for the next two panels, where the content would remain the same but be transferred to a pre-made Bootstrap theme, and then further adapted and customized.

This step involved transferring the content of the site to a pre-made theme.

The second step of this process was largely an in-between stage to demonstrate how to install a theme. One of the most important things in this stage is to select a theme that is recently updated, effective, and suits the needs of the website.

The last thing to do was to edit the custom CSS, such as changing the colors to better suit the website and customizing the background image. Personalizing the theme allowed for the website to become a unique and polished final product.

WordPress Creative Magazine

Designing and building a website publication for creatives using WordPress.

For a long time, I’ve been interested in collaborative art efforts and physical media such as zines and art books. For this project, I thought about what a digital version of this would look like, and how I would go about displaying this project if I were to build it.

I began with planning what elements and pages I wanted to include: a homepage with general information, a page where users could submit their own content, a preview page, and a storefront where any merchandise (and hypothetically, a physical version of the magazine) could be sold.

Additionally, I wanted to have a strong sense of site identity and branding. To do this, I stuck to a simple, graphic font, consistent yet colorful visuals, and created some variants of the magazine logo.

Various WordPress plugins were used in the making of this site, to implement a vast range of elements such as carousel sliders, image galleries, and shop functionality. I aimed for my overall result to be a unique, visually-appealing website focused on complimenting and showcasing a diverse set of creative works.
